A Guide to One Piece New World

So, we’d like to start by welcoming you to One Piece New World, and we hope that you enjoy your stay here. This is probably one of the more freeform One Piece RPs around, and we try to give you as much freedom as possible. However, there are, and always will be, rules which need to be read and understood, and this thread will serve as an index that will hopefully help you understand everything about the systems we use on this site.Firstly, the basic ground rules, which, if you have been on RPGs before, are more than likely well acquainted with already.

Don’t godmod – The golden rule of any RPG. You should not be responsible for the actions of any other character. Because of the freedom we allow in our storylines here, you can control any NPCs that have been brought in by yourselves, but don’t start controlling other characters in your posts. This also extends to declaring hits or successful attacks on characters played by someone else.
Don’t metagame – The ever-present companion to the first rule. Discussion between players is fine, but you shouldn’t introduce any OOC knowledge into your IC posts unless the character has a reason to know it. This also includes internal monologues that the other character might have done, that you read, but your character didn’t hear.
Respect the staff – We are here to help you, and it becomes much more difficult to do so when we are being constantly badgered, or you are deliberately argumentative.
No Double Accounts - Each player on the site is allowed to have only one account. If anyone is caught trying to gain more characters by creating additional accounts, they will be forced to choose one account. The other account, as well as all characters on it, will be deleted. In some cases, additional penalties may be applied.
Use Common Sense - There are a number of things which aren't explicitly stated here, but really, it's just common sense. Don't spam topics that aren't meant to be spam; don't be racist, any of that stuff; be reasonable.

The first thing that you would be interested in is the character creation process. There is no limit to what we expect you to write, but it is encouraged that you take the time to develop the character as much as you can, so people reading your profile will have a good idea who they’re playing with.

Plot – Our storyline is set some 300 years after the events of the manga, so all of the canons are dead. No one is related to them, nor should they feature prominently in your character’s lives. Looking up to Luffy is one thing; claiming to be his sidekick is quite another. Of course, this also means no canon characters are allowed to be played.
Number of characters – Players may make up to 3 characters. If at any time you want to abandon a character, you can do so, but anything they’ve gained is lost. If you do this, then please let a moderator know so they can move the Character Application to the proper subforum. There is, however, an option to "scoop" a character, which involves taking everything that they have earned and put it into another character. For more details, please see the Scooping thread.
Starting position – All characters are free to start in one of the four Blues, the start of the Grand Line or start of the New World though do take into account the greater dangers when stating out in the latter two. Starting further into the Grand Line & New World is possible when joining up with an existing crew that has already made their way in. Before you get to filling the template out, you’ll want to read through these sections too, so you know how the systems on this site work.
Factions – Probably the first thing you want to decide. Will you be a notorious pirate? An altruistic marine? A money-hungry bounty hunter?
Professions/Positions – Important in defining what types of skills your character has, combat related or otherwise. Also good to find out what positions they might want to fill in their crew.
Statistics – Characters will be involved in fighting, and we need a way to gauge their strength.
Traits and Advancements – Things which help shape your character and offer battle advantages.
Devil Fruits – The defining feature of One Piece. Learn about how you can get one, and whether or not you can start off with just any fruit.
Techniques – For many, the crux of the character. Those special, flashy moves that characters use in combat.

Having read through all that information, you should be able to fill in your character template, which can be found in the Character Registry forum, and posted in the same forum, not the subforums. Then you wait for moderators to tell you if anything needs to be changed. Please be patient whilst this occurs. You should get a response within a few days. There is no need to PM staff. That is only an effective method to annoy them and make them less motivated to look over your profile. After your profile is approved, please make sure you update your signature with the information found here. No rewards will be handed out until this is done, so it is important to do so.

So, now that your character is ready to go, you probably want to find them a crew to hang out with, which can be done either on the cbox, or here. Crew summaries and discussion topics can be found here and, when you have enough money, you can purchase a ship for your crew here. Make sure you read through the guidelines on crews and ships first. After that, you can start your RPing. The basis of RP here is the storyline, which is further explained here. Should you require the assistance of a Narrator in your storyline, they can be requested here. Note you do not need to have a crew before you go into an Storyline. You can go with random people that you split up with after, or go by yourself and have a Narrator lead the story. Entirely solo RPs are heavily discouraged.

Following the completion of a storyline, you should post here and a moderator will look at the storyline and give out rewards, primarily in the form of SD, Beli and bounty/commendations/threat changes. From there, you can make the changes to your profile and update your edit logs. Read this thread to find out what is required of you in terms of editing your profile.

With some rewards under your belt, you’re ready to rinse and repeat, and complete a few more storylines, before eventually heading off the Grand Line and beyond. However, storylines aren’t your only option. More battle-inclined players might want to pit their characters against someone else in the Fun In Role Play section. Any RP that takes place in this forum is unrewarded, and purely for fun. Because of that, you can participate in as many of these as you like, concurrent with your character’s ongoing storyline.

As you start to collect wealth, you might want to spend some of that hard-earned cash on new weapons, upgrades for ships, or a multitude of other things. That can all be done here.

If you have any questions about the systems we have in place here, feel free to post it here, or ask about it in the cbox (probably better to use the forum though!). Once again, welcome to OPNW, and we hope you enjoy your time here.
