Devil Fruits
The defining feature of One Piece is the mysterious Devil Fruit, which grants its consumers strange powers, in exchange for their ability to swim. Any consumer of the Devil Fruit will become paralyzed in water, and be unable to save themselves. Being bathed or submerged in water of any description will also nullify their powers. Only one type of each Devil Fruit can exist at any one time, and even if the fruit is split up, the powers are given only to the first person who takes a bite. A single bite is all that is necessary to gain its power and tastes unimaginably horrible. Consuming more than one fruit will result in the person’s death.
There are three classes of Devil Fruits, which are described below.
- Paramecia: These fruits grant superhuman abilities and are based on an object/substance or an idea/concept. They tend to be based on a theme, rather than a specific power.
- Zoan: This category includes all fruits which grant the user a specific set of animal forms. Rare "ancient" Zoan fruits and rarer still "Mythical" Zoan fruits also exist.
- Logia: The simplest and most powerful fruit, Logia allow the users to become and control an element or substance. There will be no water or wind logias.
Mythical Zoans
Mythical Zoans are handled a little differently from other fruits. The basic idea, however, is the rarity; There is an extremely limited number of Myth Zoans in the One Piece world. Because of their rarity, they are being strictly monitored by staff, and thus, players cannot create their own Mythical Zoans. Staff will be responsible for their creation.
Creating Devil Fruits
Players can create their own Devil Fruits for their own personal use or for the use of others. In designing a fruit, keep in mind that, due to the trait costs, starting characters can only have Tier 5 or Tier 6 fruits. The tier system is explained in greater detail below. If you need any help creating your fruit or want to know if it's up to standards, you can post it up here and someone will most likely tell you what is/isn't wrong with it.
A list of currently active Devil Fruits can be found here.
However, not just any idea can be turned into a Devil Fruit. Zoan fruits are typically a larger group and are subclassed into models. Keep in mind when choosing a model, however, that Zoans are not designed to encompass every individual species of animal on the planet. A single ‘tiger’ model will suffice; there is no need for white, Bengal, Sumatran, and Siberian Tiger models. The classifications are very broad and are restricted to fairly common animals that a child would know. In general, if you need to research it to find out its unique characteristics, it’s too exotic to be a Zoan. Remember, we see giraffes, wolves, moles in the canon, not Panamanian Night Monkeys and Colocolos.
In the case of Paramecias, the most common mistake is that they grant a superpower, rather than powers based around a theme. Choose an idea, and then come up with powers that might come out of that. Character Moderators and Administrators will be available to help you come up with your ideas if needed.
Tier System
There is no official ranking for the power of Devil Fruits, but we classify them by "tiers", which is based on a fruit’s potential for power. The lower the number, the more powerful the fruit is considered to be. The tier is decided based on the uses of the fruit, and how effectively it can be used for offense, defense, support, and miscellaneous applications. Here are some examples of some Paramecias and Logias*:
- Tier 0: Slang term for NPC Available Only
- Tier 1: Goro Goro no Mi and Yami Yami no Mi – Cost 7 traits to consume and use.
- Tier 2: Mera Mera no Mi and Choki Choki no Mi – Cost 6 traits to consume and use.
- Tier 3: Moku Moku no Mi, Doru Doru no Mi – Cost 5 traits to consume and use.
- Tier 4: Supa Supa no Mi, Bara Bara no Mi – Cost 4 traits to consume and use.
- Tier 5: Bane Bane no Mi, Shari Shari no Mi – Cost 3 traits to consume and use.
- Tier 6: Hiso Hiso no Mi, Aji Aji no Mi – Cost 2 traits to consume and use.
*Staff has final say on the tier of fruits even if they are reflected on the list as a low tier. Staff reserves the Right to Re-tier a fruit based on New information or its usage. You will not lose your fruit in these cases and accommodations will be made if you already own a fruit and its tier changes.
Zoans, on the other hand, do not each have their own specific tier (Mythical Zoans are the exception). Instead, each Zoan starts off as a Tier 5 (3 traits) and will might require more traits based on what characteristics the animal has. These include but are not limited to:
- Flying
- Poisonous
- Natural Armor
- Additional Limbs
Each of these characteristics could add 1 trait to the cost of the fruit. So a Wolf Zoan will require 3 traits (Tier 5) while an Eagle Zoan 4 traits (Tier 4). Note that there are other characteristics that might cause the cost of the devil fruit to increase or that there may be an exception to the ones listed above depending on the specific animal. Cases like these will be left up to moderator discretion.
Additionally, due to the rarity of Ancient Zoans, your character needs 50 SD earned to pick one up. While a Raptor Zoan would only be Tier 5 and cost you 3 traits, you would still need 50 SD earned before you can pick it up.
There is no need to assign a tier to your own creations, however. If you have a fruit in mind, bring it up with the mods, and they will go about giving it the appropriate tier, so you know whether or not you can use the fruit from the beginning. It may be wise to have your fruit looked at before you make the entire character, in case it is unacceptable. Again, Role Play Chit-Chat is a great place to get feedback for this.
If you have a fruit you want to create and use, but it is judged to be too high for a starting tier, let the staff know that you want to put it on reserve, while you collect the traits for it. This only applies for fruits that are created by the player, not canon fruits, and each player can only have ONE top two tier fruit held in reserve, between all their characters.
If you would like to claim a devil fruit for one of your devil fruits, it is not required to complete a Devil Fruit storyline, but you still need to post a topic up in the Sea Growth forum. After your topic is approved, the fruit is yours for the taking.
High Demand Devil Fruits
In the event that a Devil Fruit becomes available and the staff deems that it is in high demand (a lot of people are trying to get it), a topic will be posted in Role Play Chit-Chat. There will be a one week claiming period for anyone who wants to try and get the Devil Fruit to post in the topic to throw their hat into the ring. The criteria for claims are as follows:
- Person who has had all necessary traits available as fated for the longest.
- If nobody qualifies for 1, then person who has all necessary traits and has had a scoop available the longest.
- If nobody qualifies for 2, then DF remains open until somebody either qualifies for 1 or 2 and may not be claimed in the meantime.
When the claiming period is up, staff will review the listed claims and will inform the interested members of who rightfully gets the Devil Fruit (or that no one is able to claim it in the meantime). If no one expresses interest, then the fruit is up for grabs to all interested parties through normal means.
Random Devil Fruit Roll
A random devil fruit (RDF) roll is something unique to OPNW. Upon creation of a character, members are allowed to ask our staff to conduct a random devil fruit roll for their character. We will roll a die of 100 sides. Why 100? Cause our RDF List consists of 1-100 devil fruits.
RDF has its pros and cons alike many other things:
- You are only allowed 1 RDF per account. In any case, you are found with multiple accounts action will be taken against you.
- Didn't like what you got as a result of a roll? Well, you are only allowed to do a re-roll once. Which you can do a month afterward only if you have role played x character for about a month.
- Tier 1 Devil Fruits are excluded from the list.
Limitations
To ensure that no single member is hoarding all of the "good" fruits, we have put some devil fruit restrictions into effect. This way, even the newer members have something to aim for. All of these restrictions are per member and only self-made custom fruits are exceptions to these restrictions.
A member may only have:
- One top two tier fruit
- One Logia
- One Paramecia
- One non-custom fruit
This means a member cannot have a Paramecia on one character and another Paramecia on another character and so on. These restrictions can overlap; if a member has the Pika Pika no Mi, they cannot obtain another high tier fruit, Logia, or canon fruit among all of their characters.
There is, however, no limitation on the number of Zoans a member can have due to their abundance. However, due to being a top two tier fruit, Mythical Zoans are still limited at one per an account.
